The Best New Phones for 2009
One of the major strengths of Microsoft's approach to the smartphone niche is to make the Windows Mobile OS and application suite available to a variety of device manufacturers. The result of this approach over the past 11 years has been the regular release of innovative and increasingly powerful handhelds, PDAs, and more recently, smartphones.

Technobrains.com gets a refresh..

Bob Katayama, who used to be one of our team members here on the blog, and a WinMo MVP expert guru from back in the day has been working recently on the Technobrains web-site (which is now a WordPress blog), so go check it out. Looks like there's news, reviews, and a site store chock full of programs, games, etc...

Verizon Offering Touch Pro, Samsung Omnia, Samsung Saga
The big news last week was Verizon’s release of the Samsung Omnia and the HTC Touch Pro. The Samsung Saga, announced in mid-November, should also now be available in stores. It’s great to see that the hottest new phones are now generally available in the U.S. This week in addition to noting Verizon’s release, I’ll point you to some reviews of these and other new devices.

Protect yourself from telemarketers
Apparently the rumors about cell phone numbers being released to telemarketers is unfounded, and there is no deadline to register. However, I have been receiving quite a number of telemarketing calls and prerecorded messages on my mobile phones lately. In my opinion, telemarketers are the lowest life forms in the food chain and should be hunted down and exterminated. There should be a bounty on them.

HP iPAQ 210 Enterprise Handheld
Over the past 20 years I’ve seen incredible advancements in technology. Back in late 1991, when HP introduced its DOS-based 95LX Palmtop PC, I couldn’t have imagined something like today’s smartphone. But looking back, I see a continuous advancement in design, capability, and power in HP’s mobile devices. And right now, I’m looking at the latest example of that evolution—the HP iPAQ 210 Enterprise Handheld.

New software gives iPhone-like interface to WM devices
MobilityFlow’s new Touch Commander software can provide Windows Mobile 5 and 6 touch screen devices with a 3D interface that, according to the developer, is similar to that of the iPhone and HTC Touch. The software allows users to make phone calls, launch applications, and perform other functions by “scrolling, browsing, and spinning” using a finger.

Use the Internet Explorer Home Page
Microsoft made a customized Home Page for Internet Explorer on Windows Mobile devices that featured a search bar and a drop-down list for Favorites and History. Some of the newer devices come set up with a default carrier version of the Home Page which may not be as useful as Microsoft’s. If you want to set up your device to use Microsoft’s Home Page, do the following (for touch screen devices):

SHSH Pocket Weather 2:1--just released
There are many good Today Screen weather programs available these days. I have probably reviewed them all at one time or another. But, Pocket Weather is my favorite. I was disappointed recently when it would not install on a new WM 6.1 unit no matter what I tried. But I was heartened when the new version worked on my Palm Treo WM 6.1 with a 320 x 320 screen.

New PhoneWeaver 1.3.1 release
Whatever could be a phone weaver? Someone who weaves phones? If you consider the profile configuration elements of your phone as warp and woof, and the resulting profiles as phone fabric, then you will welcome PhoneWeaver for its amazing functionality whether on autopilot or manual operation.

Winterface version 1.2 now available
It seems Vito Technology never rests, and as a reviewer I have a difficult time keeping up with their updates and innovations. Not long ago I wrote a review of Winterface when it first appeared. Most of the operational and layout features are the same in the new version.
