Malware is hardware, software, or firmware that is intentionally inserted into a system for a harmful purpose. Examples include Trojan worms and virus, rootkits and others. A study conducted by McAfee Avert Labs claims that rootkit malware attacks were up by 700% during the first quarter of 2006 compared to 2005. Rootkits have increase an amazing 2300% from 2001 to 2005. They are primarily targetting Windows systems but are quickly spreading to other operating systems as well. |
