Daylight Saving Howto & Warning Print E-mail
As of this Sunday March 11, 2007 at 2:00 am we will be springing ahead early this year 1 hour by 3 weeks. This will cause computer systems that automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time (DST) to display the wrong time for 3 weeks. The same problem will occur in the fall when we will add 1 hour to our clock a week later than usual.

This is not going to be a problem.  It will simply force you to adjust your clock on your PC and server manually and run some software patch for any calender application such as Outlook to adjust for the change in DST.

We want to warn you that you mayl receive e-mail SCAM and other attempts by CRACKERS/HACKES to make the user believe that if they download a piece of software or click on some e-mail it will fix their computer. DO NOT DO IT. They may paint a doom and gloom scenario rivaling the Y2K in order to scare the user into clicking on some e-mail but please do not do it.  Understand that sites like Microsoft have instructions for its users on their main web site. So go to a trusted site you know the address of and trust and get the information you need to address the DST.

Call TNTmax if you need our help. Normally, your computers and servers automatically adjust their clocks for DST. However, since it has changed this year, they will not automatically update themselves for the new time adjustment. Microsoft has released an update that will automatically adjust the time change on the right date. In order to ensure that all your appointments and clocks are correct, we need to install this patch on all your computers and servers.

This is especially important in a network environment, where the clock plays a critical role in networking in a Windows environment. This process will be mostly transparent to you, and will require minimal interference while patching servers and workstations.

The only exception is regarding Exchange. Exchange requires a separate patch, and the Exchange server must be stopped for the patch to successfully install. This means all email, calendars, and contacts will be unavailable for up to 20 minutes while we install and verify the update. We will schedule with you when we can update after normal business working hours.
