At the 24th Annual International Cryptology Conference held on August 14-19, 2004 in in Santa Barbara, California, Antoine Joux announced an actual collision for SHA-0.

This discovery is now being extended to SHA-1, and could open the door to very serious problems for encryption as we know and trust it today.
