Beware of Increased Phishing Attacks

March 8, 2024by TNTMAX

Recently, we have witnessed a significant surge in sophisticated phishing email attacks that are bypassing even the most secure defenses. Even users equipped with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and robust passwords are falling victim to these scams.

The attackers are crafting emails so convincing, that unsuspecting users are clicking on malicious links, enabling the perpetrators to clone MFA tokens and credentials. This breach allows them unauthorized access to users’ emails which, in turn, may result in a serious business email compromise.

A key factor contributing to this escalation is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by cybercriminals. AI empowers them to rapidly generate highly convincing and targeted phishing emails. Additionally, the Dark Web now offers services like Phishing-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS), making these attacks more accessible to bad actors.

Here are a few ways that you can protect yourself and your company:

BE VIGILANT and SLOW TO CLICK: Exercise caution with every email, attachment, or link. Question what the sender is asking you to do, especially if there’s a sense of urgency. An example of this would be an email about a bank account change for a wire transfer payment.

PAUSE & VERIFY: Before taking any action, review emails carefully. Verify the authenticity of any request by calling the sender using a trusted phone number you have for them.

STAY INFORMED: Keep up to date on the latest phishing techniques and cybersecurity best practices.

Your digital safety is paramount, therefore, err on the side of caution to protect yourself from potential threats. TNTMAX is always here to help. We regularly post about cybersecurity threats and best practices on our social media and website.
