Cyber Security Week 1 – Intro to Cyber Security Month

October 2, 2019by Christine Becker

Hi, I’m Frederic Farcy from TNTMAX. Here at TNTMAX we are strong believers in keeping our clients informed and secured.

Since October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, I wanted to share some good information with you to ensure that you have the resources you need to stay safe and secure online.

What is CyberSecurity it is the mechanism put in place for protecting systems, networks, and programs from digital attacks. Cyber referred to computers, device connected to a network public like the internet or private like your office or home network.

Some Scary Statistics:

  • 12 billion records were estimated to be stolen in 2018 according to Juniper
  • Identity theft affected 60 million Americans in 2018 (equal to 18% of total population)
  • The United States is the No. 1 target for targeted attacks
  • 92% of malware is delivered by email

Creating a security plan and being proactive are two of the most important steps you can take in order to protect your privacy and your data. Cybersecurity threats can compromise your most valuable information and breaches will cause you to lose time, money reputation and possibly your business customers!

Probably one of the key protections you can have are robust password. If you only need a few passwords, please make sure they contain upper-case and lower-case letters, special characters and numbers. They should far exceed each site’s minimum requirements. Users who require numerous passwords for different sites should use a password manager such as 1Password, or LastPass to securely store and apply your credentials to each platform. Multifactor authentication also provides an extra layer of security upon logging into your site. This is when a code is sent to your email or cell phone which must be entered, along with your ID and password, before access is permitted.

Over the next month, we will be posting videos containing tips and best practices to keep yourself safe online in both business and personal situations. Watch for our social media posts which will contain some additional tips to keep you safe! As always, feel free to call us at any time with questions or if you need assistance integrating these practices into your business.
