As we near the end of another year, IT trends have become more important than ever.
“It’s been a long time coming, and I believe the pandemic gave CIO’s a bit of a boost, but the efforts to bring the back office to the front are materializing at a significantly higher rate,” said Eric Valdes, Chief Operating Officer at TNTMAX.
Historically, IT has been viewed purely as an overhead expense but, as companies were forced to think outside the box these last few years, many CIO’s were successful in demonstrating how to turn the traditional cost center of IT into a profit center.
“I see this as a major win for not only the CIO’s, but for the businesses who support them,” added Valdes. “By investing in technology to drive revenue, they will in kind reap the benefits of the technology for their own operational efficiencies and beyond.”
With that said, Gartner Inc. has released its top 10 strategic tech trends to watch for 2023. The trends were broken up into four themes: optimize, scale, pioneer, sustainability, reported Forbes.
Optimize
- Digital Immune System (DIS): A DIS combines software engineering strategies suck as observability, automation and extreme testing to enhance customer experience by protecting against operational and security risks.
- Applied Observability: In order to make data-driven decisions, there needs to be a shift from monitoring and reacting to data to proactively applying that data in an integrated way across a business. This can shorten the time it takes to reach important decisions, while also leading to more accurate planning.
- AI Trust, Risk and Security Management (AI TRiSM): As AI algorithms become more common, leaders should increasingly implement governance, trustworthiness, fairness, reliability, efficacy and privacy into operations.
Scale
- Industry Cloud Platforms: More organizations are expected to use industry-specific cloud platforms next year. This includes incorporating cloud software, platform and infrastructure services — traditionally purchased individually — into integrated tools.
- Platform Engineering: In response to modern software continuing to grow more complex, platform engineering has emerged between the service and the end-user to deliver a curated set of reusable self-service tools, capabilities and processes, optimizing the developer experience and accelerating digital application delivery.
- Wireless Value Realization: Gartner expects that, by 2025, 50% of enterprise wireless endpoints will use networking services that deliver additional capabilities beyond communication, up from under 15%.
Pioneer
- Superapps: More organizations are embracing “superapps” which provide end-users with a set of core features and access to independently created “miniapps” that allow for a more personalized user experience within a single app.
- Adaptive AI: Adaptive artificial intelligence enables models that can self-adapt in production or change post-deployment using real-time feedback from human and machine experiences.
- Metaverse: Gartner noted that the metaverse is still in its nascent stages and the viability of long-term investments are uncertain, but it predicts that by 2027, over 40% of large organizations worldwide will be using Web3, spatial computing and digital twins to increase revenue through metaverse-based projects.
Sustainability
- Sustainable Technology: By 2025, Gartner predicts that 50% of CIOs will have performance metrics tied to the sustainability of the IT organization.
